Hummingart featured in NYC on Time Square!

On Friday morning 25 May 2018 I received the exciting news that Vistaprint, the company I use to print my Business cards, has selected my card to be featured on a Time Square NYC screen this Sunday 27 May 2018! You can imagine that these news were and are exhilerating! 🙂

I recorded a video.

The business card below was the featured card on time square! My art has made it to New York! 🙂

NZAFA Autumn Exhibition 2018

I applied again for an art exhibition in Wellington at the NZAFA after having a little break from exhibitions and galleries middle of 2017 / beginning of 2018. And I was super thrilled when one of my paintings was elected again. This time for the NZAFA Autumn Exhibition 2018. The preparation for it takes some time.

First: the selection of the paintings I wanted to submit was not easy. What would fit the overall theme of the exhibition?
Second: After I made my choice, labels, descriptions etc. needed to be prepared.
Third: Setting an accurate price is crucial.

The jellyfish painting fascinated people attending the show and kept me engaged in conversations throughout the whole openening night. 🙂

NZAFA Winter Exhibition 2017

Exciting news are such for an artist when she receives the confirmation that two of her paintings have been selected for a big group exhibition out of 700 entries. 🙂 The joy I was feeling to attend the NZAFA Winter Exhibition 2017 in Wellington was comparable to a child that finally sees the Christmas tree and the presents below. I hope that feeling never goes away with time.

The photo was taken for personal memory purposes with something along the lines like: “Hey love, can you please take a quick photo of me in front of my paintings? But make sure no one is around to see it.” 😀  You can see it was very cold that year in New Zealand. Even inside I am still in my warm fluffy jacket.

Christmas Exhibition Kiwi Arthouse Gallery

My first art exhibition in Wellington was the Christmas Exhibition of the Kiwi Arthouse Gallery.

I have to admit I was super nervous and didn´t really know what to expect. But the idea of participating in an art exhibition in Wellington was so exciting. And then everything happened very fast. Prior to the event I had promised that I would come along earlier to help setting things up. In the end we were three or four artists who helped Alan (the gallery owner) to hang paintings on the wall and arrange easels. Every artist exhibiting “brought a plate” (Kiwi expression for bringing food along) and we had a lovely arrangement of snacks. The exhibition could start!

My boyfriend, brother and some close friends supported me by showing up (I think that made me even more nervous though!). I remember that my boyfriend brought me a big flower boquet to celebrate my first exhibition. I must have blushed to the roots of my hair. 🙂

It was super interesting to meet all the other artists, see their works and talk to them about their paintings and inpirations. Talking about my own work was at first a slightly weird feeling. Putting into words what has inspired me and how I approached the painting process sounds easier than it is. But after a while it started to really make fun! Conclusion: I discovered that networking is a huge part of being an artist.
