Exciting news are such for an artist when she receives the confirmation that two of her paintingshave been selected for a big group exhibition out of 700 entries. 🙂 The joy I was feeling to attend the NZAFA Winter Exhibition 2017 in Wellington was comparable to a child that finally sees the Christmas tree and the presents below. I hope that feeling never goes away with time.
The photo was taken for personal memory purposes with something along the lines like: “Hey love, can you please take a quick photo of me in front of my paintings? But make sure no one is around to see it.” 😀 You can see it was very cold that year in New Zealand. Even inside I am still in my warm fluffy jacket.
My first art exhibition in Wellington was the Christmas Exhibition of the Kiwi Arthouse Gallery.
I have to admit I was super nervous and didn´t really know what to expect. But the idea of participating in an art exhibition in Wellington was so exciting. And then everything happened very fast. Prior to the event I had promised that I would come along earlier to help setting things up. In the end we were three or four artists who helped Alan (the gallery owner) to hang paintings on the wall and arrange easels. Every artist exhibiting “brought a plate” (Kiwi expression for bringing food along) and we had a lovely arrangement of snacks. The exhibition could start!
My boyfriend, brother and some close friends supported me by showing up (I think that made me even more nervous though!). I remember that my boyfriend brought me a big flower boquet to celebrate my first exhibition. I must have blushed to the roots of my hair. 🙂
It was super interesting to meet all the other artists, see their works and talk to them about their paintings and inpirations. Talking about my own work was at first a slightly weird feeling. Putting into words what has inspiredme and how I approached the painting process sounds easier than it is. But after a while it started to really make fun! Conclusion: I discovered that networking is a huge part of being an artist.
